Biography

William was born about 1743. He was the son of William Porterfield and Mary Jameson. He married Elizabeth Wilson in 1772.[1] He passed away in 1788.[2][3][4][5]

On June 17, 1778, Simeon Perkins recorded in his diary that William Porterfield, along with John Matthews and Thomas Hayden, reported that they subject to raids by privateers. They petitioned Massachusetts State Council for losses suffered because of privateer raids.[6]

Adjutant William Porterfield served with 4th Regiment, Cumberland County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

William served in the American Revolutionary War in Captain Pride's Company in the Cumberland County Militia (Maine) from October 1, 1779 to February 15, 1781.[7]
