Jeannette Lavina 'Janet' Proulx was born on 2 March 1912 in Carleton, Ontario. She was the daughter Wilfred Proulx and Delina Sayer. She married Gordon McNaughton on 31 March 1928. They lived in Windsor, Ontario. Their children were: William, Jack, Betty, Doris and Geraldine.

Janet's second marriage was to Albin Knechtges. They lived in Detroit, Michigan. Jeannette passed away in Detroit on 26 April 1987. She was buried there in Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens.
