He was the Sheriff of Jefferson County, Indiana, in 1854.
Research Note: There was another Robert Wright Rea living in Madison, IN in 1854. His profile is Rea-3071. This second Wright (or Right) Rea was younger and more likely the one who was Sheriff in 1854. There are records of a "Right Ray" who operated a livery stable in Madison and was notorious for pursuing people who escaped slavery as far north as Michigan in order to capture and return them to Kentucky for reward money. Rea-3071 is identified as a 39-year-old liveryman in Madison in the 1850 census. Rea-3071 is the son of James Harris Rea and therefore the nephew of Robert Wright Rea, Jr. profiled here (Rea-1757).
