Biography

John Rea was born on 2 Oct 1848 at Balteagh townland, Seagoe Parish, County Armagh, Ireland. His parents were Joseph Rea and Ann White from Balteagh. He was baptised on 6 Dec 1848 at First Portadown Presbyterian Church, Portadown, County Armagh, Ireland.^[1]

John married Jane McGowan on 13 Jun 1888 at Cliftonville Presbyterian Church, Belfast. John was a bachelor and a park keeper. His father was Joseph Rea who was also a park keeper. The witnesses were Alexander McGowan and Letitia McKeown.^[2]

In 1901, John Rea, 50, park ranger, was living in house 2 in Ormeau Park (Ormeau, Down) along with his wife Jane Rea, 41. Their children, Agnes Rea, 11, Ellen Rea, 6, and Mary Rea, 9, were also living with them. ^[3]

In 1911, John Rea, 61, park ranger, born in County Armagh, was living in house 5 in Ormeau Park (Ormeau, Down) along with his wife Jane Rea, 52. Their children, Agnes Halliday Rea, 20, Mary Rea, 19, and Ellen Rea, 16, were also living with them. ^[4]

John died on 12 April 1924 at Ormeau Park Lodge, Ravenhill Road, Belfast. He was 75.^[5] John was buried on 15 Apr 1924 in grave H2 437 at Belfast City Cemetery.^[6]
