(JM and DM are 4th cousins.) Their most-recent common ancestors are Alfred Richardson and Eliza Silver, the 3x great grandparents of Patty (Luker) LaPlante and 4x great grandparents of both JM and DM.

There are three DNA confirmation statements on this profile. The 2nd and 3rd correctly use triangulation to confirm her relationship to her father.

But there is a problem with the first DNA confirmation statement. Please read these details from the triangulation instructions which explain that you cannot mark the relationship to the MRCAs ‘confirmed with DNA’: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Triangulation#Do_you_include_the_MRCA.3F (That means that one triangulation can never be used to confirm both a paternal and a maternal relationship.)

It appears that you used the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker app. Do you see that the statement you added says that the paternal and maternal relationships are 'confident' rather than 'confirmed with DNA'?

I’ve changed the maternal ‘confirmed with DNA’ entry to ‘confident’ for you. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

There is no maternal DNA confirmation statement on this profile. I've changed her relationship to her mother to 'confident'.

Matching DNA tests can only be used to confirm BACK TO the Most Recent Common Ancestors (MRCAs) of the two matching test takers, but not to parents/other more distant ancestors of the MRCAs.

I’ve changed the ‘confirmed with DNA’ entry on this profile to ‘confident’ for you. Please let me know if you don’t understand or if you have any questions. Thanks!

Hi Kay,

If it's only back to one parent (not both) then she/he can be marked 'confirmed w/DNA', which is the case here. Let me find those instructions...

Do you include the MRCA?

1. If there is a single MRCA — because the matches are half-cousins, i.e. descendants of half-siblings who share only a mother or only a father — each child-to-parent relationship back to and including the relationship to the MRCA can be marked as confirmed.

2. If there is a common ancestral couple each child-to-parent relationship back to but not including the relationships to the ancestral couple can be marked as confirmed. The relationships to the common ancestral couple can be marked as confident.

But you had marked the relationship of one of the MRCAs (Mary herself) to her OWN mother 'confirmed with DNA'. As the statement says, you can mark "the relationship TO the MRCA" as confirmed. Your statement attempts to confirm one generation further back than is allowed.

You might want to use the new DNA confirmation citation maker here: https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/clarke11007/DNAconf.php

Ok, I see now what you mean... oops, I thought you'd removed Mary's confirmation.

In order to confirm her parents on up will I have to do triangulation? I expect to see you back a lot when I start attempt more of that. LOL

Thanks Kay!

Kay, I did a triangulation to take it back another generation, please check it out. (fingers crossed)

That new one looks good. Your statement says paternal and/or maternal relationships are confirmed, but the relationship it confirms is only the paternal one, so I would remove the "and or/maternal" words from the statement. And I recommend removing the first DNA confirmation statement on this page. It just doesn't apply here.

Will do, thank you for helping me with all of this!
