Solomon Sigler and Leah are listed in the 1850 census, but their first child had not yet been born. They had three children born between late 1850 and 1854, but Leah died shortly after that and Solomon remarried in 1857. Soon after the Civil War broke out Solomon enlisted In July, 1861 as a private in Company "G" 7th Virginia Brigade (which became the 97th Virginia Militia) and served through the year. In April 1862 he joined Company "E" of the 2nd Virginia Infantry, but was reported absent soon after. The last known record of Solomon Sigler is a receipt for 32,000 pounds of hay he provided the Confederate army as a civilian, dated August 17, 1864 and signed by him.
