Hetty Tayler is Notable.

Helen Agnes Henrietta Tayler was born on Wednesday, the 24th of March 1869 in Chelsea, London. She was the second child and second daughter born to William Tayler of Glenbarry and Georgina Duff[1], second daughter of Norwich and Helen Duff, nee Shoolbred.[2]

In 1871, Helen was living at 3 Stanhope Place, Paddington, in the Kensington District of London, with her father, William, mother Georgiana, her elder sister Constance, her baby brother Alexander, and the six staff members, consisting of a Head Nurse, Housemaid, Under Nurse, Cook, Kitchen Maid and a Footman.

In 1881, Helen was, this year, living at 14 Eaton Square, in the Hanover Square district of London, with her mother, Georgiana, and the four staff members, consisting of a Cook, Housemaid, Kitchen Maid and a Footman.

In 1891, five years after her father passed away, Helen can be found, living at 29 Kensington Gate, in the Kensington District of London, again, with her mother, sister and brother and five staff members, consisting of a Ladies Maid, Cook, Housemaid, Kitchen Maid and a Butler.

In 1901, five years after her mother passed away, Helen was living at 34 Kensington Court Mansions, in the Kensington District of London, with two staff members, a Cook and a Parlour Maid, and her cousin, Francis Mary Cathcart.

In 1911, Henrietta was still living at 34 Kensington Court Mansions with Alexander, who gives his occupation as a Writer and Publisher, and two staff members, a Cook and a Parlour Maid.

Helen Tayler, better known as Hetty, and her brother Alexander, known as Alistair, were Historical Writers, and they both specialized in 17th and 18th century British History, especially, the Jacobite Wars, which fascinated them both. The siblings worked as a team, to record the history and activities of the Jacobites in Scotland during the 18th century, and their work, noted for its quality, has remained an invaluable source of historical information on some of the most important figures in Scottish history.

Hetty and Alistair Tayler were co-authors of the penultimate Duff Family History resource, The Book of the Duffs, in 1914, and, considering the unavailability of Computers, compiling all the information on the family, was a mammoth task in itself.

In 1914, the terror of a World War loomed on the horizon and Hetty went to help, as a Red Cross Volunteer Aid Nurse, was Matron Nurse at Earlsmount Hospital,[3] and, being a gifted linguist, in 1916, found herself in the Austrian Alps, towards the end of the war, tending to the wounded during and after the Battle of Caporetto[4] and later in Venice, as told, in Maggie Craig's biography entitled Henrietta Tayler.[5]

Hetty was also the author of The History of the Family of Urquhart in 1946. Research and collection of material for this publication was initiated by Alistair. He became interested in the Urquhart Family during their research on the Book of the Duffs, many years before he passed away, in 1937. Hetty and Alistair copied all the interesting Urquhart papers at Meldrum House just before 1914, and Hetty makes mention of the fact that, her brother made her promise to complete the publication should he not be able to do so.[6]

Hetty also wrote an unpublished autobiography, entitled, My Brother and I, and with Alistair, had a hand in the publication of more than thirty books, including the miscellany volumes of the Scottish History Society and the Third Spalding Club to which she and Alistair contributed.[7] Hetty would also add Alistair as co-author to many of the publications written after his passing.

Helen Agnes Henrietta Tayler never married and passed away in Kensington, London, England on Tuesday, the 10th of April 1951.[8]

Signed, Henrietta.
