There is no evidence to prove when or where Margaret was born. A merged profile provided 1550 as an estimate of her birth year (with no source). This estimate is probably too early. Husband Edward's first proven child was born in 1581 and his last in 1600. Given the normal marriage age during the period and the limitations of fertility, Margaret's birth date should probably be estimated between 1560 and 1565.Watt-266 19:26, 18 August 2015 (EDT)
Disproven Origins
NOT Margaret Gillyat
Edward Marvin's wife should be Margaret _____, NOT Margaret Gillyat. There appears to be a mix-up between Margaret, Edward's wife, and Margaret Gillyat, the wife of son John.
Here's why:
(1) Negative and/or conflicting reports as to the surname "Gillyat."
There appear to be no entries for the surname "Gillyat" in the Family Search Library Catalog. When filtered for the exact surname "Gillyat" and "any" event, 1550-1650, there are no returns for a given name Margaret from FamilySearch Historical Collections.
For the same search filter, FamilySearch Ancestral File and Pedigree Resource File return almost 500 hits. All but 11 of the first 100 hits regard a spouse "John Marvin."
(2) Reporting about Matthew Marvin in 2007, Anderson [3] called out three authored works, below. Each of these published reports involved extensive work with English records; in each, she is Margaret ____.
William T. R. Marvin, The English Ancestry of Reinold and Matthew Marvin of Hartford, Ct., 1638, Their Homes and Parish Churches (1900), 105-115, for Edward (40) Marvin; digital images, _Internet Archive_ (accessed 2014).
George Franklin Marvin and William T. R. Marvin, Descendants of Reinold and Matthew Marvin of Hartford, Ct., 1638 and 1635 (1904 [reprinted c199?]), 22-26; the couple's burial information at p. 22; digital images, _Hathi Trust_ (accessed 2014).http://hdl.handle.net/2027/wu.89061972949?urlappend=%3Bseq=36
John Insley Coddington, "Notes on the Ancestry of Reinold and Matthew Marvin," The American Genealogist 18 (1941):1-13; in particular part, p. 10 for Edward (8) "Mervyn, Marven or Marvin." Provides updated reasoning about the estimate of Edward's birth; reports wife Margaret ____ "may or may not have been the mother of all his children." Article includes corrections to the two earliest generations of the line (Thomas Mervyn, d. 1503; John Mervyn, d. 1533) at pp. 1-4.
She was buried St. Mary's, Great Bentley, Essex, England, 28 May 1633, Essex, England[1], wife of Edward Marvin, buried at the same place, 15 November 1615.[2]
