Robert Urquhart married Pamela Condon in Lahore, Punjab in 1939 and they had four children including Elspeth Campbell who married Menzies Campbell and Suki Urquhart who is author of The Scottish Gardener

Brigadier-General Robert Elliot Urquhart, whose name appears in a recent issue the "London Gazette" as one of the Scottish recipients of the D.S.O., has a close connection with Aberdeenshire. He is the eldest son of Dr Alex. Urquhart, Shepperton-on-Thames, a graduate both in Arts and Medicine of Aberdeen University; and a nephew of Dr W. S. Urquhart, Torphins, formerly Principal of the Scottish Church College, Calcutta, and Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. His grandfather, the late Rev. Robert Urquhart, was for many years minister at Oldmeldrum.
Robert Urquhart retired from the Army in 1955.
He was portrayed by Sean Connery in the 1977 movie A Bridge to Far.
Major General Robert Urquhart passed away at Port of Menteith, Tayside, Scotland, United Kingdom in 1988.
