Donald was born about 1836. He was the son of Colin Urquhart, a crofter, and Mary MacLean.

Donald Urquhart was born in Scotland.

Donald Urquhart, aged 38 years, a fisherman, married Catherine McCaskill, aged 24 years, on the 20th of March 1873 at the Poolewe Inn in Poolewe, on the shore of Loch Ewe, in the parish of Gairloch, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland, United Kingdom.^[1]

He emigrated to New Zealand in 1875 on the Alumbagh arriving on 17 August 1875 with his wife Catherine and his father Colin Urquhart. Also with him was his 19mth old son Roderick born in Scotland and the 14 year old daughter and niece Mary McCrae, daughter of his sister Ann Urquhart and her husband Murdoch "Murdo" McCrae.

Donald and Catherine had 5 more children in Urquharts Bay, Whangarei Heads.

Donald passed away at his daughters home in Takanini and is buried in the Settlers Cemetery, Whangarei Heads.

He passed away in 1919.^[2][3]
