Biography

Crowned King of France in 1515 in the cathedral at Reims and reigned until 1547.

Francis I, a member of the Valois Dynasty.

Francis is considered to be France's first Renaissance monarch. His reign saw France make immense cultural advances. He was a contemporary of King Henry VIII of England, his great rival.

François I died at the Chateau Rambouillet and is interred with his first wife, Claude de France, Duchess of Bretagne, in Saint Denis Basilica.

NOTE: Francis I, parentage of child 'Henry" with mistress 'Dau DE LA RIEUX' is speculative and without conclusive documentation. However it may prove to be true and possibility deserves inclusion.

'Henry", speculative child with (possible) mistress 'Dau DE LA RIEUX', has been disconnected. There is no conclusive documentation and the dates do not make such a parentage possible (Henry being only 6 years younger than François; his mother would also have been too old to be a "young lady at court" after Francis became King).
