Biography

Sir John Wrottesley was born at Wrottesley Hall, Tettenhall, Staffordshire. about 1682, but due to a fire at the family home in 1897 the family bible was lost, so it is assumed that he was of age at his marriage in 1703, making him born circa 1682.[1].

Sir John Wrottesley was the 2nd son of Sir Walter Wrottesley 3rd Baronet Wrottesley and his wife Eleanora Archer. but as there first son also Walter , died young in 1686, John would succeed his father in 1712 on Sir Walters Death.

In 1708, during the lifetime of his father, he was elected member for the county in conjunction with Henry Paget, afterwards Earl of Uxbridge. At this period the Whig interest greatly preponderated owing to the victories of Marlborough, but before the next election, in 1710, the tide had turned, the Whig Ministry had been dismissed, the Tories had a majority, and John Wrottesley lost his seat. According to Wotton Sir John was a gentleman of Strict honour and justice, and highly valued by the county for which he was chosen as representative in 1708. The same authority informs us that he married Frances, daughter of the Honorable John Grey, of Enville, Esquire, the third son of Henry, Earl of Stamford, by Catherine, his second wife, the daughter of Edward, Lord Dudley and Ward, (Sir John married at St Mary`s Church, Enville, Staffordshire on 15th January 1703 to Frances Grey[2]). by whom he had five sons, John, who died in November 1723, Charles, who died in 1724, both in there minority; Sir Hugh, died in 1729 and Sir Walter died in 1731 both in there minority. Sir Richard the 5th son, became the only surviving son and went on to become the seventh Baronet on his fathers death.

Death, Sir John died in 1726, aged 43-44 at Wrottesley Manor, Tettenhall, Staffordshire and he was buried at in the Wrottesley family Shrine, at St Michael and all Angels Church, Tettenhall, Staffordshire, [3]on 1st of November 1726.

In his will of 1725 John left everything to his Uncle Harry Wrottesley, his wife Frances, Anthony Collins Esquire and his wife, Elizabeth, My sister.
