In 1650 the town of Dunber, located on the east coast of Scotland, was the scene of a bloody battle between forces of Cromwell, a pious Puritan leader, with his veterens from Ireland, and General David Leslie who was in command of the Covenanters in defense of the Catholics.Three thousand Scots fell in this battle. Ten thousand were taken prisoner, about half were released due to exhaustion or injuries. Of the able bodied, about 5,000 were marched to the Cathedral in Durham. About 30 died every day due to the conditions. Arrangments were made to transport the prisoners to New England. In November on the ship "Unity" arriving in Boston in late December. George Gray was among those sent to Unity Parrish to work in the mills in Berwick, ME formerly part of Kittery,ME.
