State of Mississippi Clark County March 8 AD 1868 Dier brother an sister I have taken this opportunity of writing to you to let you hear from us we are all well at present except bad colds an I hope thes few lines my find you enjoying the same like blessing. I received your leter and I was glad to hear that you had got home sae an all was well. I promised to write to you but I have been waiting for the sign to get rite. James an Alford has paid off their mortgage. James has bin sick with chills and both the boys has quit him. An gone back to Newton an husband’s has came an taken his place an rented it to other men only what James wants to cultivate I lacked a little of paying mine up. I want you to rite to me if you have made any collection an if you will have any to spare. I have got 15 acres of corn planted an rest smart of cotton land beded an expect to plant 30 acres more in corn an Davis is as good a plow horse as ever whiched an as good a bugy horse as ever went between shaves.
