A memorial marks the spot where 57 people were reinterred who were associated with the original Rutland Plantation. The original cemetery was associated with both enslaved people working on the plantation as well as freed African Americans after the Civil War. The memorial and new cemetery are very near the original Rutland house, which was relocated to its current location in 2007. Only one person's name is know.
