Cumbria is a ceremonial county in North West England. It came into existence in 1974 after the passage of the Local Government Act 1972, by the amalgamation of the historic counties of Cumberland and Westmorland, the Furness district of Lancashire, and Dentdale from the West Riding of Yorkshire.
Locations within Cumbria should be categorised according to their historic county - [[Place, Cumberland]], [[Place, Westmorland]], [[Place, Lancashire]] or [[Place, Yorkshire]] - in accordance with the guidance for English Place Name Categories.
