The von der Pahlens are a Baltic-German noble family attested since Johannes de Pala, governor of Riga in 1120. Five brothers of the family were granted Freiherrenstand by Karl XI of Sweden, 18.ix.1679, and Peter Ludwig von der Pahlen was granted Grafenstand by Pavel I of Russia, 1799.
