The Uexkülls, Yxkulls, Meyendorff von Ixkulls, Uexküll-Gyllenbands, and Uexküll-Guldenbands are all descendants of a Baltic knightly family which acquired the estate of Uexküll (Ikšķile, Latvia) in 1257. Members of the family matriculated in the four Baltic knighthoods and were ennobled as barons and counts in different nobilities across northern Europe. Numerous branches of the family survive into the present day.
