Free-Space Profile

Categories: WikiTree Help

WikiTree has two kinds of profile pages: Person Profiles and Free-Space Profiles.

Profiles of Places and Things

Free-Space Profiles are wiki pages for supplementing your family history. They can be used to profile anything of significance to you or your family.

For example, you can profile a special pet, a meaningful event, a school you attended, a family heirloom .... They're "anything pages".

Here are two examples of Free-Space Profiles:

The above can be viewed by anyone, but these profiles can also be kept private just for the family members and friends you designate on the profile's Trusted List.

Advanced Tip for Experienced WikiTreers

Instead of using the form, advanced WikiTreers can enter text in a person's biography that looks like this: "Here is a [[Space:Sample WikiSpace Page|sample page]] to test."

To break that down:

  1. The double brackets create the link.
  2. The title of the new webpage comes first, prefixed with "Space:". Give it any title you want, e.g. "Space:Sample Page".
  3. Then you put in a "|" pipe and the link name as you want it displayed, e.g. "|sample".
  4. When you save the biography and go back to the biography you can click on your new "sample page" link to create the profile.
