Project: Global Cemeteries/May 2015 Cemetery Connection Challenge

Contents

The Challenge

This month's challenge includes all contributions to the Global Cemeteries Project that involve concrete additions to the tree: creating profiles, attaching tombstone photos to profiles, and connecting profiles to the global tree. The focus is on connecting them to the tree, so that's worth the most points.

The challenge runs from May 1 to May 31, 2015.

The Winners

The winner of the challenge will be the person who earns the most points. See the Earning Points section for details.

What will you win, you ask? Fame, glory, and bragging rights, of course! Also, there will be a badge for the winners.

Leaderboard

This table will be updated throughout the month with the top 3 participants for total points.

Rank Name Points
1st Sadie Whanger 3146
2nd Martha Riley 2309
3rd Carolyn Martin 1982

The Rules

  1. All rules of the Global Cemeteries Project apply. No copying of pictures from other websites. No damaging tombstones (eg. by attempting to clean them, doing rubbings, etc.).
  2. Be respectful of mourners! Give a very wide berth to funerals, and to people visiting graves.
  3. Photos added to WikiTree must be ones you took yourself, or ones you have permission from the photographer (another project member, a friend, etc.) to post.
  4. Transcriptions must be done from the photos taken by you or another project member; details cannot be copied from Find a Grave or other sites.
  5. Profiles can be created through GEDCOM imports, but you must add the imported profiles to the appropriate cemetery categories and do any necessary cleanup.
  6. Updates must be posted at least weekly.

Earning Points

Here are some details on how to count the points for each activity:

  • Earn 1 point for every profile that is created, whether it's the person whose information is on the tombstone, or a family member you're adding to that person.
  • Earn 1 point every time you connect a tombstone photo to a profile.
  • Earn 10 points for every person buried in a cemetery you're working on that gets connected to the global tree.

Example: Let's say you create a profile for a person buried in a cemetery you're working on, add attach a tombstone photo. Then you add his parents. You discover that one of his grandparents already has a WikiTree profile, so you make that connection. You'll get 3 points for creating profiles, 1 point for attaching a photo, and 10 points for connecting the initial person to the tree. 14 points in total.

Participants

You can join at any time, even after the challenge has started. However, you can only count contributions made after you've signed up (out of fairness to the other competitors), so it's best to sign up early!

Please add a subsection here with your name and a link to your profile ID. Once you've started participating in the challenge, you can list the cemeteries you've worked on (please include links to the free-space pages), along with the number of points you've earned for each activity. Lianne will keep a list of people currently in the lead updated periodically throughout the month, based on what you enter below.
