Paths to Alice in Wonderland

Alice Liddell, inspiration for Alice in Wonderland, is 3rd cousin 2ce removed from the late Queen mother, and has some interesting roots.

I couldn't resist roughing her in to see how we connect up. It seems she is my 13th cousin, 3x removed. She came from a large family, so if anyone wants to help fill in her tree, please jump in.

I went back and connected her grandfather Rev Henry George Liddell to the Liddell family. Her mother is still disconnected, I'll work on her next.

Thanks, Kirk.

btb, is the thepeerage.com considered acceptable for citation? It seems to be a well-sourced compilation tree, but I've never explored it to see if the sources check out. I've seen serious errors on another similar one, our-royal-titled-noble-and-commoner-ancestors. Would much prefer to see the actual sources.

I admit I didn't check first - while sometimes he sources with e-mails but considering the number of peers/baronets in his immediate family I assumed, correctly, all were sourced by Burke's Peerage (2003), along with The New Extinct Peerage, The Complete Peerage and the Complete Baronetage.

ThePeerage is ok generally because it is a good proxy for the latest Burke's, which is not easy to find unless your Library is a subscriber. Marlyn Lewis's is ok too when he uses Douglas Richardson citations.

Also, the Reeves are one of those not very wealthy gentry families who are hard to document without a ton of work. I put some starting points in her mother's father James Reeve.

Thanks, Kirk! I've been very lazy lately.

I found England Births & Deaths from familysearch.  added as source.  added info to biography.

Westminster was transferred from County Middlesex to the County of London in 1889, so technically Alice Liddell was born in County Middlesex in 1852, not County London.

oh, thank you for checking on that.

regards,

Cheryl
