Can we please remove PPP, temporarily, from Baxter-31 to allow a merge?

Baxter-31 was PPP'd to block any further merges with Baxter-5174.  They have similar dates, but are different men.  Now co-manager Deborah Downs Allison has noticed another profile Baxter-6330 that is for the same man as the one now in Baxter-31;  her proposal to merge them is now an Unmerged Match.  We'd like to be able to make that appropriate merge, then reinstate the PPP for Baxter-31.

I sense some misconceptions about PPP here. If you wanted to merge Baxter-6330 into Baxter-31, and Baxter-31 was PPP, all you needed to do was propose the merge. PPP does not prevent merging. It does prevents a PPP profile from being merged into some other profile. Thus, for example, PPP of Baxter-31 ensures that Baxter-31 can't be merged or renamed into Baxxter-1, but PPP doesn't prevent an unprotected profile (such as Baxter-6330) from being merged into the protected profile.

If you think the profiles should be merged, please propose the merge.

In the meantime, I'm going to restore PPP to Baxter-31 because it appears to me that the history of confusion about the Thomas Baxters means that an unprotected profile that shows no parents is likely to attract erroneous parents.

Yes, Ellen, I did misunderstand that about PPP.  We'll go ahead with the merge.

The problem with this profile was that other profiles, of different but somewhat similar people, were merged into it, conflating two separate individuals.  We spent no little effort unconflating them, last year.  Since PPP does not prevent that, I guess we managers of this profile will just have to be vigilant in rejecting proposed incorrect merges rigtht after they are proposed.
Glad that's straightened out.

We can remove PPP and allow the merge to proceed, however we will need to find a project to co-manage the profile for PPP to be reinstated:

Which profiles should be protected?

There are four requirements. All four need to be met before protecting a profile.

  1. They must fit within a project
  2. They must be 200 or notable
  3. They must have the lowest-numbered ID
  4. They must be controversial or duplicated
