When I was in high school at the American Community School in Amman, Jordan, a classmate of mine in art class asked me if I was related to Casey Kasem. I told hiim that I wasn't. Now, I'm not so sure I'm not related to him. His parents were born in Palestine when it was under British rule, but moved to Lebanon in the 1920s or thereabouts. My paternal grandfather was also born in Palestine, when it was still under Ottoman rule. Could there be a connection or relationship between the Kasim and Kasem families? It's a common name in the Middle East, particularly the Levant, and in the Upper Midwestern United States.
Casey Kasem was born Kemal Amin Kasem in Detroit, Michigan to Palestinian Druze parents. His parents were born in Palestine, but fled to Lebanon during the early 20th century after the First World War. He died in California on June 15, 2014.
Thank you.
