DBE suggested death date should be "November 1325", linking to a page citing German wikipedia as the source. Richardson says he died "shortly before 1 April 1325",[1] so the dbe was marked as false. ~ Noland-165, 16 June 2020

The ODNB entry for James Audley accepts Hugh as son of James and Ela. It names five sons, of whom Hugh is one.
Hugh Audley very definitely existed. He was a historical person. When the profile is developed, there is more that can be added to the bio, and we can see if the sourcing for his parentage can be strengthened.

I'll look up the RA refs in a sec.
Douglas Richardson, Royal Ancestry (2013), volume I, pages 200-202 AUDLEY 8.
If the information is the same as in Plantagenet Ancestry, the sources are probably the same too (even with a magnifying glass, I can barely read the fine print following the entries in RA). The trick with Lewis's database - https://our-royal-titled-noble-and-commoner-ancestors.com/p368.htm#i11041 - is verifying that the information that appears to be attributed to Richardson is actually in Richardson.
I also searched the soc.nedieval group and didn't find anything relevant at first glance but I did find the le Rous thread I had responded to earlier this year.
