Biography

VALE 'BOB' BLECHYNDEN ^[1]
With the passing of Alfred Walter ("Bob") Blechynden at the Beverley Hospital on Tuesday, September 7th, a strong link with the early days of the Morbinning area was severed. Although retired for many years with his wife in Beverley, he farmed the property of his parents, the late Mr and Mrs J. W. Blechynden, at Morbinning, after being invalided from the Army during World War I.
He was the third son of a family of six, and his sister, Eva, of Hunt Road, Beverley, is the sole surviving member of the family. Another sister, Ida, and brothers. Fred, Ben, and Ernie, predeceased him.

'Bob' Blechynden enlisted in the Army at the age of 21 and, as a member of the 28th Infantry Battalion saw service in the Middle East, and it was at Gallipoli that he was wounded - losing an eye as a result. After his return to Australia he married Miss Mary Doohan and of the union two daughters Kathleen (deceased) and Emily (Mrs. Jim Sing, of Beverley), and a son, Fred (Kendenup), was born. Kathleen's death occurred under tragic circumstances on the farm when, as a young girl, she was dragged by horse that bolted.
Aged 82, Bob was possessed of a quiet nature and a, sense of humour. He was a firm favourite with both the young and old, and possessed an inexhaustible fund of anecdotes and information on the early day of this area. To his bereaved wife, family and sister goes the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends.

A service was held in St. Mary's Church, Beverley, on September 10 prior to the funeral cortege leaving for the Church of England cemetery.
