Biography

Spenser was born in 1851^[1] at Uckfield, Sussex, England^[2]. He was the son of John Diplock and Lucy Diplock. He passed away in 1907.

Research Notes

It is possible that when Spencer was baptised, he was incorrectly entered into the baptism register as "Mary Ann" as there is a baptism transcription of Mary Ann d. John Diplock (labourer) & Lucy Diplock of Ridgewood bapt. 4th January 1852 at Uckfield, Sussex. The original copy of register shows the baptism of "Mary Ann" but should have been Spenser as he was born in the December quarter of 1851, but there is no birth registration of a Mary Ann Diplock (MMN Paris) or any trace of Mary Ann after the baptism (the Mary Ann Diplock in the census was the Mary Ann born and baptised 1851, daughter of Henry and Georgina/Georgianna Diplock).
