Richard Gilson was born in 1870 in White Hills, Colony of Victoria, son of Daniel Gilson (1825–1885) and Jane Nicholas (1835–1892).[1]
Richard (29) married Susanna Duke (26) (born in 1873) in 1900 in Boulder, Western Australia.[2] Their children were:

- William Noel Gilson (1902– )
