John Hodgins was born in Ireland.

John W. Hodgins was born in 1832 to Matthew Hodgins and Sarah Green.

According to notes made during the 1901 Census, John immigrated in 1854, when he was about 22 years old.

John married Mary Jane Richardson in 1862. Their marriage record reads:

John Hodgins, 24, residing in Admaston, born in Ireland, son of Matthew Hodgins and Sarah Green, married
Mary Richeson (sic), 23, residing in Horton, born in Goulbourn, daughter of John Richeson and Jane Early,
On April 8, 1862, in Renfrew County, Canada West.

Together they had the following children:

  1. William Henry, married Elizabeth Brown
  2. Sarah Jane, married James McAlister
  3. Ann, married Thomas Crozier
  4. John Walter, married Margaret Alice Edwards
  5. Ellen, married Robert Bruce Price
  6. Albert Edmeron, married Sarah Ann Bowes

John died on June 18, 1911, in Tompkins, Saskatchewan.

He is buried at Haley United Cemetery, in Haley Station, Ontario.
