Biography

John was born in 1868, the son of John W Hodgins and Mary Jane Richardson. He was born before Birth Registration began in 1869, so his date of birth is taken from the 1901 Census.

In 1871^[1], 1881^[2], and 1891^[3] John was living in Bromley Township, Renfrew County North, Ontario.

He married Alice Edwards in 1895^[4]. Their marriage record reads:

John Walter Hodgins, 26, residing in Admaston, born in Bromley, bachelor, farmer, son of John and Mary Hodgins, married

Alice Edwards, 21, residing in Westmeath, born in Elizabethtown, spinster, daughter of John and Mary Edwards,

Witnesses: W.E. Edwards, Westmeath, and Ella Hodgins, Bromley

On June 25, 1895, at Westmeath.

Together they had the following children:

1. John Lester, married Ida Dell Luker
2. Emerson, married Doris Margaret Tweedy
3. Mary Ethel, married William L. Crozier
4. Iva Pearl, married Samuel Robert Johnson
5. Walter Wesley, died young
6. Elma Florence, married 1st Chester Bane Ross, 2nd. Roy Raymond, 3rd. W. L. Crozier
7. Edna, married Harold Leslie Gibson
8. Cora Bell, married Joseph Percival Dowsett
9. Hazel Lillian, married James McLaren Valentine

In 1901, John and Margaret were living in Admaston Township, Renfrew County South^[5], with their children: John, Emerson, and Mary E.

In 1911, Walter [sic] and Margaret were living in Admaston^[6][7] with their children John, Emerson, Ethel, Iva, Elma, Edna, and Cora.

In 1921, Walter and Margaret were living in Admaston^[8] with their children: Emerson, Eva, Ellen, Alice, Cora and Hazel.

John died in 1949 and was buried at Cobden Union Cemetery, in Cobden, Ontario^[9].
