Frank was born in Chautauqua County, New York in 1856, the son of William and Emily (Coe) Lydell[1]. He was living with his brother, Lester in Perry, Iowa at the time of the 1870 census but by 1879, the William Lydell family had relocated to Mecosta County, Michigan. Frank was apparently there, too, as he married Emma Elnora Brown in nearby Reed City in 1882[2]. They had a farm in Whitewater, Michigan by 1900. Emma died in 1908 and Frank and daughter, Grace were in Alpine, Michigan for the 1910 census where he had begun his career as a fish hatchery employee. In 1920 he was living with son Jasper in Jackson, Michigan, working in a factory and apparently headed back to the north country shortly thereafter, marrying Lula Westlake Bell in 1920 in Traverse City[3]. He was named manager of the Hastings Fish Hatchery in 1921 after he "collected 3,000,000 perch eggs from nearby streams, ad by painstaking effort virtually all the eggs were hatched"[4]. In 1930 and continuing through 1940 he was working at the fish hatchery in Grayling. He passed away in 1942[5] and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley, Michigan[6].
