Nils was born in/at Bada, Fryksände parish, Värmland on the 30th of June 1860, and baptized on the 8th of July.[1] He was the son of Olof Olsson and Maria Larsdotter.[1][2]
When Nils is born he already has four older siblings, Olof, Karin, Marit and Lars. The other family on the page is also relatives, as his father is listed as "svåger", meaning brother in law.[3]
The next household books shows more siblings being born in/at Bada, Inga Maria and Per Johan[4] and later also Christina[5][6][7][8]
The household book for Fryksände during the years 1881-1885 shows that most of Nils' older siblings are moving out, some most likely for work or marriage, and in 1885 his younger sister Inga Maria dies.[9]The next book for 1886-1890 only shows four children left in the home of the parents, Nils is one among them. That is until May 29, 1891 when Nils leaves his home in Bada, Värmland, Sweden with destination "N. Amerika". This is also the first household book that Nils is listed with Englund as last name, [10] (No more exact destination is known.)
In 1881, Nils was living in Fryksände, Varmlands, Sweden with his parents. His birth date was recorded as 30 Jun 1860. It was noted that his father Olof was born 20 Apr 1822 and his mother Maria was born 10 Sep 1825 in Fryksände. Siblings, Olof was born 12 Jul 1847; Karin, 12 Sep 1849; Marit, 30 Aug 1855 and Lars, 20 Feb 1858. All of the children were born in Fryksände. [11]
On 25 Feb 1900, Nels (39) and Emma Westlund (25) were married in Escanaba, Michigan. The groom's parents were Olof Olson and Mary Larson. The bride's parents were Charles and Jospehine Smith. [12]
In 1910, Nels (49) was employed at a lumber yard and living in Maple Ridge, Michigan. He owned their mortgage free farm. His wife, Emma (35), took care of the home and family. May (3) and Willie (1) stayed home with their mom. The census worker noted that Emma gave birth to seven children, and six were still living in 1910. Hubert (12), Earl (10) Annie (8) and Carrie (6) were attending school. Emma's brother, John Smith (23) was also living with them. He was born in Sweden and employed as a laborer, doing odd jobs. [13]
Nils' son, Gustave Englund died on 29 Jan 1916 in Maple Ridge, Delta, Michigan, United States before he was a year old [14]
Nelson's son, Emil died 3 Jun 1918 in Maple Ridge, Delta, Michigan. He was one-year-old. His mother was Emma Smith. [15]
In 1920, Nelson (59) was living in Maple Ridge, Michigan. He was born in Sweden and immigrated to the United States in 1891. Nels was naturalized in 1893. By 1920, he was widowed, and working as a farmer on his own mortgaged farm. His sons, Herbert (22) and Earl (20) were both laborers at a factory. Anne (18) stayed at home. Carry (16), May (14), Willie (11), Walter (9), and Edwin (7) attended school. [16]
Nels' daughter Anne Marie Englund (21) and Rolphe Olson (24) were married 28 Aug 1923 in Delta, Michigan, United States. The bride's mother was Emma Smith. The groom's parents were Sander Olson and Anna Nelson. [17]
When the 1930 census was taken, Nels (69) was farming on his own farm in Maple Ridge Michigan. The census worker noted that their household did not own a radio. Walter (19) was working as a laborer in the wood industry, and Edwin (17) was employed as a laborer on a general farm. [18]
Nels' son Earl (32) and Celia V Lusardi (18) were married 23 Aug 1932 in Delta, Michigan, United States. The groom's mother was Emma Smith. The bride's parents were John Lusardi and Matilda La Bresh. [19]
In 1940, Nels (79) lived his own farm on North Rock Road in Maple Ridge, Michigan. The estimated value of his home (not the entire farm) was $100. The equivalent in today’s dollars is $1,900. Nels was unable to work, but did have income from other sources. Nels had two lodgers living with him. Thomas Thompson (64) was born in Finland and had an eighth grade education. He was employed as a Laborer for the WPA doing Roadwork. In 1939, he earned $308 ($5,852 in today’s dollars) and worked 30 weeks of the year. Henry Kihn (42) was born in Germany and had a third grade education. He was employed as a laborer in a logging camp. In 1939, he earned $200 ($3,800 in today’s dollars) and worked 20 weeks of the year. All three men lived in the same house in 1935. [20]
Nels Englund died 6 Feb 1942 in Diffin, Alger, Michigan, United States.[21][22]

The immigrant registers at Ellis Island https://heritage.statueofliberty.org/passenger-result just turns up two Nils Englund, both immigrating in 1892, not 1891. There are plenty of Nils Olssons immigrating in 1891.
Skimmed through the emigrants registered leaving with ships from Göteborg, from May 29 though the month of June 1891 without finding anyone with the name Nils Englund (Göteborgs poliskammare före 1900, Inkomna uppgifter om utvandrade personer, SE/GLA/12703/E IX/45 (1892), bildid: A0056934_00130).
