George Payne was born December 10, 1728, in New Garden, Pennsylvania, the son of Josiah Payne Jr. and Martha Sheppard. Josiah was born in Middlesex, England; emigrated to Virginia in 1714 and soon moved on to Chester County, Pennsylvania where he married Martha Sheppard. George was the 8th of thirteen children.
George married Rachel Cowgill March 26, 1752; they had four children in 10 years. He died on January 23, 1799, in Washington County, Tennessee, at the age of 70.
He passed away in 1801. [1]

Marriage: 26th day, 3rd Month (New Style, i.e. March) 1752; see Maryland Marriages pub. by Gen. Pub. Co. of Baltimore. See also Nottingham MM records, Lancaster Co., PA, which lists births of first 5 children of George and Rachel PAIN [sic] of York Co. (film #389403). Look elsewhere (in York Co. records?) for birth dates of later children. Certificate of Removal in Hopewell Friends History, p. 415 to Hopewell from Deer Creek MM dated 3rd day, 11 mo., 1777, names Geo Pain, w. Rachel & ch., Rachel, Martha, Sarah, Alice, & Geo.

George Payne left his wife Rachel 1/3 of the home plantation and the whole tract of land he had purchased from Joel Brown.
Henry appointed his wife Rachel, son George and John Cowgill as executors of his estate.
