Possibly born in Abbey St Bathans, Berwickshire.
Named as the father of Frances Purves on her 1829 baptism record.[1]
James lived at Thurso, Caithness, Scotland at the time of his daughter Fanny's marriage to Daniel Curdie. James Purves, a well-known Caithness agricultural improver and factor then farming at Thurdistoft in the parish of Olrig.
