John Urquhart was born in 1547 at Craigfintray in the parish of Turriff, Aberdeenshire, the second son of Alexander Urquhart. [1]

John Urquhart "Tutor of Cromarty" married 3 times, firstly to Elizabeth Gordon.[1]

Secondly, to Jean Abernethy, daughter of Alexander Abernethy, 6th Lord Saltoun.[2][3]

With his last wife Elizabeth Seton he had the following children: [1]

John Urquhart passed away, aged 84 years, on the 8th of November 1631, at Craigston, in the parish of Turriff , Aberdeenshire, and was buried in King Edward Old Kirkyard, Aberdeenshire.[1]

Inscription To the memory and for the remains of John Urquhart of Craigfintray (who was commonly called the Tutor of Cromarty, son of Alexander Urquhart, Sheriff of Cromarty. He was a man remarkable for his prudence. He died on the 8th of November 1631. Of John Urquhart of Laithers, his eldest son died 11th of December 1631. Of John Urquhart his grandson, died 30th of November 1634.

John Urquhart was born in 1547 the son of Alexander Urquhart and Beatrice Innes. He married Elizabeth Cairnburrow, daughter of John Gordon of Cairnburrow, in 1580. He died on 8 November 1631. Tutor (guardian for underage kinsman) of Cromarty. Inherited Castle Craig from brother Thomas. He lived Craigfintray. In 1604 built Craigston Castle, Aberdeenshire. In 1610 married 3rd Elizabeth, only daughter and heiress of Alexander Seton of Meldrum younger and eventual heir of Meldrum. He lived in 1610 Craigfintray m 2nd Jean (d without surviving issue by), dau of Alexander Lord Saltoun of Abernethy (qv). Child of John Urquhart and c Elizabeth Cairnburrow John Urquhart+ d. 1631 Child of John Urquhart Patrick Urquhart+ b. 1611, d. 1664
