William de Urchard was born about 1275.[1][2]

Also named Gulielmus de Monte Alto by some historians, who refer to Lord Lyon documents, which carry the line back several more generations.

He was supporter of ROBERT I in struggle for independence against English 1297–1328, as which, commander forces defending the Mote-hill of Cromarty in 1306.

He married Lillias Ross, daughter of Hugh Ross, Earl of Ross. They had:

  1. Adam de Urchard b. 1310, d. c 1385.[3]

William married secondly to Violet, daughter of John Comyn, Earl of Buchan.

William de Urchard, Sheriff of Cromartie died about 1348.[1][2]

Research Notes

  • Most sources name Lillias as the daughter of Hugh, William Ross's son, however dates don't match this assertion. The Lilias born to Hugh, her Dob is after her son Adam, who was granted Inchrory in 1338.
