Germany Project Connector's Challenge June 2022: Large Branches

Hello hello, the Germany Project is calling again for its Connector's Challenge. In this month I highlight some of the large unconnected branches. I chose a few branches that mainly have profiles located in Germany. Here we go, I mention the German region where most profiles of the branch are located.

Josephus Bross (Württemberg) (Connected! Thanks Stephanie!)

Franciscus Beersauter (Württemberg) (Connected! Thanks Stephanie, Flo and - yeah again - myself)

Arno Hoffmann (Westfalen) (Connected! Thanks Flo for finding the connection that I created the profiles for)

Theodor Fontane (Preußen, mainly in today's East Germany) (Connected! Thanks Paige and Flo!)

Remember, there are also some profiles from other countries in these branches. So even when you don't have experience with German research you might have an opportunity to help

I‘ll have a look at Fontane, but it might take a while (still traveling and afterwards a month full of events and appointments…)
@Jelena: Maybe you want to include the WikiTree+ links to be able to browse the branches?

@Flo: You can use the Missing Links App to see which profiles potentially miss connections.

You are all AMAZING!!! The Hoffmann and Fontaine trees were on the England list forever, but we couldn't make any connections. So HUGE thanks to all involved; on behalf of the England Project Connectors!! smiley

Thanks Frances. It's nice to see that other projects also keep an eye on this occasionally.
Thanks Flo! :)

I will try with Bross: Rheinschmidt-30 might be the niece of an ancestor. This would be a good opportunity to put that part of my tree online. Only problem is: her fathers in WT and in FS don't match ...

That one was wrong, so I can't connect, but we have a new player in town: Stephanie Schosser saw my post this morning at BaWue-L about the Beersauter tree and somehow ended up connecting herself to the Bross tree. Now she wants to connect herself to Tress-105 and we're done. Looking at her tree all names around the FamilySearch father of Zitterell-1 also show up, so that might also be an idea.

Woohoo! She did it. Bross is connected via Tress and I still didn't remove my relative from there.

Hi, I have connected in Familysearch John Paul Zitterell, father vrom Zitterell-1 to the Zitterell family tree in Oberschwaben. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KNHC-93C

The family started after the 30year war with an immigrant from the Montafon/Austria to Dieterskirch. This Johann Zitterell died 103 years old and has had several sons, getting married and having descendents.

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/9S78-485

So, if somebody wants to connect this in wikitree, the data in Familysearch was checked from me and connected together. I have this Johannes Zitterell 3x in my family ancestry.

Regards

Steffi

The Fontane branch mainly has people from Brandenburg, some Sachsen-Anhalt around Merseburg and also some foreigners that might have potential:

USA
Mc Masters-453
Mc Masters-454
Von Schoppe-6

England
Mc Masters-455
Unbekannt-122
Mc Masters-456
Mc Masters-457

Also there are some people from Mecklenburg:
Sengbusch-13
Wienke-49
Stüdemann-11
Stüdemann-13
Wienke-50
Konow-43
Aussum-3
Berndt-247
Nagel-1880
Nagel-1882

I'll work on Mc Masters-453 and Mc Masters-454.  It looks like Mc Masters-454 was born in Canada, but moved to the US by 1880.  The census lists several siblings for him.

Cool, thanks. I just saw he died in San Antonio. I have some distant cousins there, but the place is and was for sure too big for overlaps smiley

I connected the Fontane branch through the American husband of Mc Masters-455's great granddaughter.

Mc Masters-454 died in San Antonio while working on an Oil and/or mining deal, but he had lived in Monterrey, Mexico for about 50 years.  Several other family members also lived in Mexico.

Thank you Paige! And also Flo for checking which are profiles for potential easier connections. This is great teamwork
Hallo Flo,

die direkten Nachkommen von Mc Masters sind die Schmiedehaus in Texas. Die Familie Schmiedehaus ist schon eingearbeitet,

The Hoffmann branch mostly has Westfalen with a few exceptions:

* Eickeler-1 (London)
* Böhme-62, Unknown-336364 (Neissen, Sachsen)
* Gillner-2 (Sasterhausen, Striegau, Breslau, Schlesien)

From statistic point of view most profiles come from Clarholz. There are also about 50 Italian profiles, for which I wrote Chris F. and I. Caruso from the Italy Project to ask for support.

Paige is meanwhile working on the Eickeler ancestors from Weilburg and Weinähr, Hesse. I see you wink

Maybe one of these US emigrants works out?

Beersauter doesn't have any emigrants or people from Baden. It is done by the same WikiTreer like the Bross branch.

Statistically most frequent birth place is Gundershofen. Most of our profiles referring to that Gundershofen turned out to be actually about Gundershoffen in Alsace angry Schädle-3, however might have some chances. Unfortunately she was born in 1898 while the Gundershofen births at FamilySearch end at 1867. The weddings go until 1901, but I don't find her parents there either.

Next would be Justingen. Unconnected are Oswald-1356 until Oswald-1364. We have also connected Oswald profiles from Justingen.

Stephanie Schosser (see Bross reply) can be connected via Schosser-23 from the Beersauter branch. Can we help her a bit connecting them?

by Florian Straub G2G6 Pilot (200k points)
I'm in. With some basic profiles that should be done by tomorrow evening.
I'm done with the connection. It will be shown as connected in a couple of hours. I stil did not add more children of the families, the parents of the wives etc. So there are potentially many more profiles to create.
Hello Jelena, thanks. I will do minor corrections to the added data (e.g. baptism place different to birth place) and add some more sources.
Bitte, gern geschehen. I used the data I found in the FamSearch-entries.

I'm on my way. Aaaaand we have one undated profile less in the database. Yay!

(There was a time when one was able to create a profile without even an estimated date. Now it's not possible anymore.)

Basic profiles are done. And maybe I can connect another profile to its Bigge ancestry. We'll see.

That was fast. Thanks! So we completed another challenge, how cool is that. I wonder what will be there in July ...

Currently, the largest branch I know of with German profiles is Haffner-265, which hasn't changed size in five years, so I don't think anybody's working on it.
