Question

Hello,

My name is Tammy Sue Rich-Ansley.  I recently got married to a wonderful man.  I have been rather busy taking care of myself health wise and now my husband.  I have always been interested in geneology, but not sure how to make it all come together.  I found this site back in 2017 I believe it was, then I also found Ancestry.com and MyHeritage.com.  I set up my profiles on both of those sites, but I have not had the funds to keep them going.  I also have an app on my phone called FamilyTree, that has also found some information about my dad's side of the family.  I am not sure how to bring all of these together.  Perhaps someone could tell me how to do this?

I have found some information that I was searching for from my mother's side of the family, but I am still at a standstill with that.  My mother's father had nothing to do with my mother, so I do not know hardly anything about his side of the family.  I did find out that he was in the military, and I did find out that he was married twice after my grandmother.  I have an aunt and an uncle that I never met.  I have no idea how to find them either. The thing that makes everything come to a standstill is that my grandfather was adopted.  I am with the understanding that he was adopted within the family, but that is all.  Also, he was only named with initials, so it has been a brick wall for me, if you will.  Any further assistance would greatly be appreciated.  

I am fighting to get on disability now, so once I get my disability started, I want to get my DNA test done, so that I may be able to get further in my family search.

Any further suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated at this point as well.

I am looking for the following surnames:

Rich, Whitehead, Preacher, Woods, Cotton/Cotten,Gallagher, Allison, Knight, Womble, Self. These are the names I know of right now. I do know that my great or great-great grandfather Pruitt Albert Cotton/Cotten was of Choctaw Native American.  I do not know how to locate this information either.  I can only have six (6) tags for the Surnames/Tags, so the highlighted names above are the other names that I have interest in searching as well.

Any help from here would be so helpful.

Tammy, hope all is well. What I did was take your profile for John Woodard Preacher, Preacher-43, added his mother, and gave him an inline biography with source citations. If you have a Family Search account, they are no cost, you can just click on the source and view them. Same with Find A Grave. Will do more later as time allows.

Hi Tammy and Welcome Back. You will find a lot of help here. I identify with only one name. ʻSelfʻ,  that you mention. Interesting that she was Native American (Maidu, CA) but I think Self was the married name and her spouse was also Native. None of that helps, because it is all I know.

Please go back to your question and edit your post and add the surnames you are seeking as tags at the bottom of the question, that will help people find you.

I have not looked at your profile yet, but hope you have added dates and locations for as many ancestors as you can.

The names (surnames) I gave in my message are the ones I know of.  The one that you mentioned happens to be on my mother's side and the one that I know of on my father's side of the family that is Native American is Cotton/Cotten.  I give both spellings because I have found both spellings along the way and not sure which one is correct.  I will continue searching and I will go back and do as you requested so that I may be able to get some further assistance.
