John Allen, b. ca. 1605, d. 1689 Swansea, MA, married Christian.  Several profiles show her LNAB as Bacon.  What evidence is there for her maiden name being Bacon?  Should the profiles be merged toward Unknown?

Hi Vic, thanks for acting so quickly!   I did my best to leave my research on those profiles when I set this up -- let me know if it was unclear.   Or should I have asked here as well?

I can find no evidence AT ALL that there's any record of Christian's last name.  It's not in the New Plymouth Colony records (vital recors prior to 1647 were lost), and I don't see it given in serious genealogies.

There's no Christian Bacon in the New Colony index -- Hunt, Phinney, Billington, Penn, Eaton, Allen, yes; no Bacon, though there were some Bacons active locally.  There's a link to the pdf for that index here.

I can, however, find evidence that she's been conflated with Elizabeth (Bacon) Allen, the wife of a different John Allen.  Might be this one [[Bacon-1892| Elizabeth (Bacon) Allen]].  At least, many crufty genealogies give it, and one can see how it would happen.

Though given the amount of errors and conflation that I've found for the family of John Allen of Swansea, I make no promises that either that [[Bacon-1892| Elizabeth (Bacon) Allen]]  or her John Allen are whole historic people.

On reflection, yes, I should have asked; it's a major PGM change.  I was just too shy.
