"Jacques" is a French name. Early French fur traders working out of what is now Canada married -or at least had children with - Native American women so that is why some Native families are found with "Jacques" and other French names. The Catholic church was very interested in converting the native people and the traders were often accompanied by priests. In order to be married by a priest the Native American woman first had to be baptized as Catholic so there are records of both the baptism and the marriage. Many of these early church records can be found in Canadian archives.
