My brickwall is John Vanhorn, b. bet. 1806-1811.  John is my 2nd gr-grandfather.

It is possible that he was born in PA.  He married Elizabeth Struble in Philadelphia in 1836.  He was a wheelwright with his business at Ann St. & Frankfort Ave.  He died after 1867- this was the last I found him in business directories in Philadelphia, and the death certificates prior to 1900 do not give enough information for me to find one on him.

The VanHorn Family, by Francis M. Marvin gives the parents of John VanHorn as William VanHorn & Margarite Thomasse. This is an ERROR. William VanHorn died prior to the birth of John VanHorn in Canada.

It is possible that a generation was skipped in the genealogy given by Marvin and that William VanHorn is the grandfather of John VanHorn, not his father.

William VanHorn & Margarete Thomassee had a son William. Marvin's book states this William married Margarete Ellis. A marriage record for William gives the date of his marriage to Margaret Ellis as Aug. 17, 1780. He left a will dated 1854 in Middlesex Co., NJ. Per Marvin's book, he and Margaret had a son John, as well as other children. This William would be the correct age to be the father of John.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John and Elizabeth married at Market Square Presbyterian Church.         https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V26V-GY4

John's estimated birth year is 1806, Ann E may be Elizabeth. The children look to be the same as at WikiTree.            https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4CT-461

I don't know if John Vanhorn is related to Margaret Vanhorn Dwight who was named after her maternal grandmother, Margaret Vanhorn. In 1810 Ms Dwight to a trip from CT to Ohio at the age of 20, and documented the trip for a close relative. About 100 years later the notes were converted into a book, A Journey to Ohio in 1810. I think the book is available on the internet at no cost. There were few bridges along the way and no AAA rated motels.
