Does anyone have any Info on John Morgan and Lydia Ann Nations? The flowing info is what I have so far. I need help identifying their parents and where they were from.
John Morgan who married a Lydia Nations in Lawrence County Mississippi in the 1840's, at possibly Mt. Moriah Baptists Church. If you have any info or can obtain any info on these two it would be deeply appreciated.
The following is what I know as fact (documentation) or by word of mouth and others family trees
They both were born in or around 1815 thru 1825. No birth records have been found as of yet.
John could have been born in Mississippi or Alabama.
Lydia’s maiden name is said to be Nations according to other family trees on Ancestry.com, and may have been born in Mississippi, Alabama, or South Carolina. It is also said that her parents were Thomas Nations and Catherine Robertson. But I cannot verify this with any documentation.
Both of Johns parents whose names are unknown and are from or born in Georgia according to the 1880 Scott County, Ms. census. I am in search of Johns Parents names and where they lived and where they were from.
In this Census we find John living with his Son Constant Tine Morgan and Lydia is not found here so either she passed away or they divorced before 1880.
I found the family in the 1850 Livingston Parish, La Census that shows that John and Lydia were living in Livingston Parish as a Farmer. Found the family again in the 1860 St. Helena Parish, La. Census living there as farmers
Parish History
St. Helena is one of the four original parishes of the West Florida Parishes that staged a revolt and fought for freedom from Spanish rule in the fall of 1810. After the revolt, these areas, which were once a part of colonial West Florida, were annexed to the Territory of Orleans in 1810 after the short-lived Republic of West Florida capitulated to the United States. Many of the present-day landholders can trace their roots back to the land grants that were given prior to the revolt. In 1832, the southern section of the parish was taken to form Livingston Parish; the courthouse was moved to Greensburg, La. from Montpelier, La. where it remains today. St. Helena lost another portion of land in 1866, which was added to land from Washington and Livingston Parishes in 1868, to form Tangipahoa Parish.
So the 1960 St. Helena Census could be confusing on actually where, John and Lydia’s home actually was. Meaning their home could have been in Livingston, Washington or Tangipahoa Parishes.
So today I am reaching out to all of my Morgan family for help. So if you live or have lived in any of the locations mentioned and may have a way to obtain Church records, Bible records, Grave sites, News paper articles, Obituary’s, Birth, Marriage records, or even stories you’ve heard all of your life.
The way I see it anything and everything is a relevant lead to the past history of our ancestors.
The Following are the census of 1850,60 and 80. Still searching for 1870 but may have been burned in a fire. Also I’m including what I have found on their marriage. These are the facts I have. If you can add any addition it would be greatly appreciated.
