How do we transcribe a strikethrough?

Not sure whether this is Style or Tech.

I'm including a transcription of a will which includes a word with a strikethrough.

Is there an accepted way of showing a strikethrough, without using the actual line through the word?

Thank you in advance!

One way See Instructions for Trascription Center

UNDERLINE / STRIKEOUT

Please write strikethrough or underlined, when appropriate, in double brackets before and after the word or phrase that has been struck out or underlined. Like this:

I really [[strikethrough]] hate [[/strikethrough]] don’t like the smell of rotten eggs.

Hi Magnus,

Thank you for your answer!  I also saw the instructions from the Smithsonian.  That seems to be specific to their transcriptions, which are probably later edited by software (similar to our templates and categories), to become the final version - in print or online - where the actual strikethrough is added.

I am asking what one does if they do not have access to the actual strikethrough (as in our case in biographies).

Hope I have explained this adequately.  Thank you!

Ok

Can't you just add [strikethrough] text [/strikethrough]

Yes, thank you Magnus.  That's exactly what I will do.
