Has anyone had an autosomal DNA test on a line that includes Frost or Cock/Cox of New York?

Question

Isaac Frost b. 1717 in Long Island, New York (William, William) m. Mary Cock (James, James). They are my ancestors. I am using autosomal DNA in an attempt to confirm this line. If anyone has tested with FTDNA (Family Finder), Ancestry or 23andMe and has either a Frost or Cock/Cox line, please let me know so I can compare your results to my cousins and me.

Not New York, but if in the last year you've discovered that they have a connection to the COX/COCKE families of Virginia, I may be able to help.

Thanks for asking Doris and thanks to Qtym for bringing this thread back to life. I only recently discovered that my paternal line GGF is almost certainly Walter Joseph Cox though I haven't made the connection yet in Wikitree as it is still based mostly on a single 2nd cousin level DNA match. The match is actually through Walter's wife Alfrida Svenberg and I have also found triangulated matches who have Svenberg ancestors in Sweden but have not been able to make the connection yet. What makes our potential connection more interesting is that my closest yDNA match (60% chance of sharing a common ancestor in 4 generations) is descended from the McCauleys of Oyster Bay, Long Island. It turns out that the Irish version of Cox is probably a shortened version of MacQuilly which is an Anglicized version of the Gaelic Mac an Choiligh.

I checked on GEDmatch and we have several very small (<7cM) matches. Between my sister and I we match you on five segments ranging in size from 4.4 - 5.8 cM (I also had to lower the SNP threshold to 250). We also have five matches in common, three of who are interestingly through my Mom. Of the two that are through my Dad one has a tree on GEDmatch and has Irish ancestors on their paternal and maternal sides who immigrated to Ontario and Watertown, NY (way upstate, an hour north of Syracuse) respectively, no Cox ancestors though. We also both have smaller matches with Qtym though they could easily be chance. I do believe that my Mom and Dad share a common Irish ancestor though it is probably at least six generations back and likely more. It would be interesting to know if you have any DNA matches who have ancestors from County Roscommon in Ireland as this is where I think my Cox ancestors came from. I have several DNA matches who all have ancestors from the area, particularly around Boyle and Strokestown.

I don't know that any of these things individually would amount to much but I think all of them combined make a reasonable argument for a connection somewhere though it may be too far back to find.

Thank you. I was looking for descendants of this specific couple several years ago when I submitted my query. I was undertaking a massive atDNA project to prove a male line using the target male's wife and her ancestral line as a control factor. It worked beautifully.
