Eunice (Ashley) Bruce (abt. 1779 - 1809)

Biography

Eunice has, up to now, been considered a Bartlett. However, the intention and marriage for her to John Bruce listed her as widow Eunice Bartlett. I contend that she is Eunice Ashley who married Frederick Bartlett in 1800. They had two children, William Bartlett and Sophia Cook Bartlett. Frederick died 12/1802. In 11/1803 a widow Eunice Bartlett married John Bruce. In 9/1804 Sophia Cook Bartlett died and in 10/1804 Sophia Bartlett Bruce was born. I think naming the Bruce girl Sophia was to honor the memory of her very recently deceased half sister. Also,the approximate birth year of Eunice Bruce per her gravestone is 1779 and that just happens to be the same year Eunice Ashley was born.

The evidence needs to be found to support the above theory but, for now, Eunice's parents are thought to be Joseph Ashley and Phebe Markham. It should be noted that on her stone is also the name of Emaline Adres who was "child of Emeline Andrus, singlewoman".
