Biography

There appears to be two different thoughts of when Johnann Casper/Kasper entered the American Colonies. One is during 1740 in Philadelphia and the other 1765 entry at Baltimore. List of Palantines imported on the ship Roberts and Alice, Walter Goodman, Master, and the Samuel, Hugh Peircy, Master, from Roter-dam, but last from Cowes and Deal, did this day take & Subscribe the Oaths to the Government. Abraham Taylor Esqrs Natuarlized APR 1761 Vendalanah Ernst and Conrad Cruger Witnesses The family counted themselves among the "Black Dutch" The Hebrew meaning of the word "Ater" is "Black Hand" Kasper Eder and his family of four sons and four daughters, came to America in 1765 through Harve du Grace in France, landing at Baltimore, Maryland.' Among their possessions was a Bible published in 1744 which contained family records (In 1926 this Bible was in the possession of Gideon Ater). They also brought practical tools with them such as steel adze for making dugout canoes. (looking for a source here)

WILL OF CASPER ATER/ATOR/EADER 11 NOV 1782 "In the name of God Amen. I Casper Eader of Frederick County and State of Maryland farmer being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be given to God for it and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Teatament in manner and form following, this is to say-- first I recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named. And as touching such worldly Estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: and first I desire that all my just debts which I do leave to any person whatsoever be Contented and paid within Convenient time after my decease: Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Vandelenah Eader besides her thirds the sum of fifty pounds Current Gold and Silver money. I also give her my Roan Mair and her side saddle. I also give her my feather bed with its furniture and two milk cows also an Iron pott and a Brass Kettle and what flax and Hemp was made on the plantation the last crop: I also give her four hoggs and a young steer and fifty bushels of wheat for the use of the family till the next harvest. Also I leave her a pewter Dish: Item I give and bequeath to my son JOHN EADER the sum of thirty pounds Current Gold and Silver money. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter MOTTENE the sum of five shillings Sterling money. Item I give to my daughter Mottene's Eldest Child the Sum of ten pounds Current money to be paid to the child when it shall come to age. My land and Plantation I leave to my wife Vandelenah Eader During her life and after her death I leave all my land to my son David Eader on Condition that he pays to each of my seven Children hereafter named the sum of fifteen pounds Current Gold and Silver money (Viz.) Mary Creighter (Kreager), George Eader, Betsy Barrack, Sussy Coock, Abram Eader, Adam Eader, and Jacob Eader. But if my son David should not choose to take the land and pay the Money to my seven Children above named mentioned, then I leave the land to be sold after my Wife's death and the Money to be equally Divided among my seven Children above named and my son David Eader. The rest of my movably Estate I leave to be divided equally among my eight children, that is to say Mary; George; Betsey; Susan; Abram; Adam; Jacob and David. and I do nominate and appoint my trusty and loving wife Vandelenah Eader and Conrad Creigher my Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made, Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In confirmation whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this eleventh Day of November one thousand seven hundred and eighty two. Ater-2 and Eader-3 appear to represent the same person because: I adopted the orphaned Ater-2, then found your Eader-3. They appear to be duplicates despite the different surname spelling. Once merged I have some source material I'll add. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks.
