"Marion Elizabeth Buell (was) born in Charleston, March 9th, 1904 and died in Columbia, May 25th, 1972. She and her husband are buried in Riverview Cemetery, Charleston. After graduating from Memminger High School in Charleston with high scholastic standing, she received her A.B. degree with honors from the College of Charleston in 1926. In college she was a member of the Iota Lambda Phi sorority. She taught for a year at Memminger High School and then became head of the Department of English at Chatham Hall, Chatham, Va. which was a rare honor after teaching for only one year. She taught at Chatham Hall for two years until her marriage. In 1932 she returned to Charleston because her husband's business took them there. She took an enthusiastic and capable interest in community affairs and was three times president of the City Federation of Women's Clubs. She was a past president of the S.C. Federation of Women's Clubs. Her other Charleston interests included the County Library the Free Kindergarten Assn. and the Charleston Welfare Council. She served on the Board of the Charleston County Tuberculosis Assn., Board of Trustees of Shaw Center and Board of Managers of the Ladies Benevolent Assn. After her husband's death in 1950 she entered the business world as an accountant with the U.S. Govt. Engineers. In this work she was transferred to Shaw Air Force Base at Sumter and then to Columbia with the District office of Social Security Administration, where at the time of her death she was a Claims Representative. She was also a charter member of Kathwood Baptist Church in Columbia. She married Leonard Osborne Page of Charleston, West Virginia, June 20th, 1929. He was connected with U.S. Govt. work and died May 14th, 1950. They had no children." (Note: The above information was supplied by Col. George B. Buell, Jr., 1978.)
