Biography

Holmes Hammond, seventh son of Jabez Holmes Hammond and Polly Rowe, was born January 17, 1807 [6], in West Windsor, Vermont. Holmes married twice, first Sarah Marcy, the daughter of Prosper Marcy, March 8, 1832, in Windsor, Vermont. They produced three daughters: [1]

• 1) Carrie Hammond, b. May 17, 1833; d. August 1, 1891
• 2) Marcia Hammond, b. December 24, 1834
• 3) Emma Sarah Hammond, b. July 18, 1842; d. October 17, 1871

"He followed the occupation of mason at Windsor until 1843, when he removed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he engaged in farming. In 1857 he removed to Clinton, Wisconsin......". [1]

Secondly, all the rest of my personal and real property to be equally divided between my beloved daughters. Thirdly, I hereby appoint Oscar C Gates the executor of this my last will and testament and hereby authorize and empower him the said Oscar C Gates to compound compromise and settle any claim or demand which may be against or in favour of my said Estate. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of April AD 1884. ---Holmes Hammond" [7]
