Biography

Joshua Turner was born on 09 April 1681 in Duxbury, Plymouth Colony, the son of Japhet and Hannah (Hudson) Turner,[1] and baptised in Scituate on 24 June 1683.[2]

Joshua married Mary Perry (date & location unknown),[3] but before the birth of their first child on 28 January 1710/11.[4] "Henry Parrey of Pembroke...husbandman" made his will on 29 March 1733, probated 13 September 1734 in Plymouth County, in which he named his daughter Mary Turner. Mary Perry, born say 1690 probably in Marshfield, died Pembroke 30 Jan 1748.[5]

In the Court of Common Pleas, March 1718/19[6] is recorded:

Begun the first Tuesday
"These were the Jurymen that "Tryed the Cause betwixt John Barnes and Jno. Wadsworth, and the Doggetts and John Haskall. In the Cause betwixt Hannah Turner, Guardian, and Joshua Turner, John Little was put off the Jury and Capt. Morton appointed foreman and John Otis put on. Note also, That John White of Marshfield and Jabez Wood and Thomas Fish were on the Jury at this Court.

"Japhet, Israel, Hannah, and Elizabeth Turners (by their Guardian and Mother Hannah Turner)" v. Joshua Turner. Trespass and Ejectment, of "one Mansion house" and land in Pembrooke. Deft. pleaded that he was lawfully seized "by vertue of a Deed of Gift of his Grandfather John Hudson as Tenant in fee tail General."

Jury verdict for pltfs., possession of the estate and costs. Costs taxed at £4.1s.6d. Appealed by deft., with Joseph Stetson (Pembrooke Yeoman) surety.

Joshua Turner died 24 July 1728 at Pembroke, or 14 July per his gravestone, aged 47 years.[7]

On 10 July 1728, "Joshua Turner of Pembrooke in the county of Plymouth in New England, husbandman" made his will in which he named his wife Mary as executrix, and made bequests to sons John & Joshua, and three daughters: Mary, Hannah & Rebeckah. Witnesses Israel Turner, Ruth Magoone, Thomas Parris. The will was proved on 7 October 1728.[8] His inventory was taken on 11 October 1728 in Pembroke.[9]

On 5 Feb 1730, John Winslow of Scituate was made guardian to Joshua Turner, a minor under the age of twenty, son of Joshua Turner late of Pembroke. John Magoon Jr. was surety.[10]
