Peter was born in Kentucky in 1825 and migrated with his family to Arkansas in 1839. The 1840 U.S. Census for White River, Washington, County, Arkansas shows him with his family there. The 1850 Census shows him in Washington County and lists his occupation as "lawyer". The 1860 Census shows him still in Washington County, living with Adaline, James, Charles, Alfred King, and Lissie (age 22). He taught at the Ozark institute before entering the legal profession. He died in captivity of the Union army. One source says he was on Masonic Parole at Springfield, Missouri at the time of his death.[1]
Peter Pinckney VanHoose and Annis Adeline Gregg were married by Wm. Trogdon MPP at Greggs Mill, Washington Co. Arkansas.
According to "History of Benton, Washington,..." etc counties, published 1889,(see below sources) "P.P. Van Hoose, a brother of Mayor J. H. Van Hoose, was educated at Ozark Institute, in which he subsequently became a professor. He was a thorough scholar, and lawyer of high ability, but was cut off by death in the prime of life."
