I've been doing rather detailed research now for about two years. Like looking for obscure but well written analyses and sources. I'm focusing on the family of Maj. Lawrence Smith as I feel his ancestors and descendants tree's are far more tangled online than they should be. I've yDNA and autosomal DNA for comparison. I can trace my lineage back to a David Smith and Elizabeth Meriwether, and feel very certain that Maj. Lawrence Smith and his male relatives would match my yDNA despite what other Maj. Lawrence Smith researchers might say. My autosomal DNA results are a key resource to untangling these lineages and I know of no other male descendants with both yDNA and autosomal DNA for descendants of this population.
